Levels of Repair
- Good Playing Condition (GPC):
The GPC level maintains the prior "set-up" of the instrument. Pads, corks and felts are replaced as necessary to allow the instrument to function reliably for at least one year. If pads appear that they wont last for one year, they are replaced as necessary. Detail work is performed as necessary, however, if the condition of the instrument is poor enough, the next level of repair may be required.
- Damage Repair to Good Playing Condition (GPC):
Obvious repairs are made to restore the acoustics and function of the instrument.
Levels of Enhancement
Enhancement will enhance and re-define the orginal function and condition of the instrument. The purpose is to correct mechanical problems resulting from basic factory work, prior repairs, and damage and wear and tear by the owner.
- Partial Rebuild includes a thorough cleaning of the instrument, body, post and key alignment, leveling all tone holes and key cups as necessary, refitting all keys as necessary, new key corks, felts, and Teflon glides, as well as all new pads.
- Full Rebuild includes all work with a partial rebuild plus making and fitting oversized hinge screws as necessary. With many instruments, the original hinge screws are not only loose in the keys, but loose in the posts. This condition is frequently found on vintage world class instruments as well as some new ones. This basic looseness of keys leads to poor durability, inconsistency, unstable key adjustments, and a heavy touch; the potential of an otherwise fine instrument would be compromised.
- Restoration would be warranted on instruments of great value to the owner and it represents even more detail work than full rebuilds.
